πŸ‹ Mother & Calf Spotted off Middleton

Monday 21st July

This morning, just past Pullen Island near Middleton, our crew witnessed a serene and unforgettable moment β€” another Southern Right Whale mother and her calf resting quietly in the still waters. This appears to be a very new calf.

For around 25 minutes, we watched as the mother floated almost motionless while her calf stayed close, gently rolling and surfacing beside her. The calm ocean and quiet connection between the pair made it a truly beautiful moment β€” a chance to pause and soak in the awe of these magnificent creatures.

Eventually, they slipped into a nearby swell and drifted off, unhurried and graceful β€” a true privilege to witness.

The season is far from over β€” and if this morning is anything to go by, there’s plenty more magic ahead.
